Looking for DFW area freelance draftsman

I’m looking for a freelancer to work on residential interior design projects with me. I need someone with architecture experience that can physically measure a space can create a floor plan in Sketchup based on those measurements that I can then work off of. Does anyone have a recommendation on where to find someone?

You might want to look at sloped.io for certified/ vetted freelancers.

Dear @Chelsea.Dunn.Design,

I am a retired engineer (P.E.) who has been using SketchUp for 10+ years. Oftentimes clients ask me to deliver dimensionally accurate SketchUp models of existing structures that they then use as the basis of their renovation/remodel projects. You only mention floor plans in your post … (which I can delver) … but typically my clients end up asking for more.

My projects have ranged from the modeling of an entire estate with multiple structures (for the restoration of an ancestral home) … to the modeling of the ceilings of a single penthouses (for the design of new lighting) … and everything in between. And my clients have included individual owners, remodelers, builders, architects and developers … and everything in between. The common thread is always the need for dimensionally accurate SketchUp models. Oftentimes the client ends up asking for more than that … but the dimensionally accurate SketchUp model is almost always the starting point.

I would like to have the opportunity to learn more about your interior design projects … and to perhaps then explore how I might add some value to Chelsea Dunn Interior Design. Would also like to have the opportunity to show you some examples of my typical deliverables.

I sent you a DM with my contact info so that you can contact me directly.

Make sure the person you hire has a valid SketchgUp Pro license - which enables commercial work. That said, if the person you hire has an iPad, you may benefit from using our new Scan to Design feature. A couple videos on it below:

@eric-s posted some videos about scanning with an iPad … but it’s not clear to me that "Scan to Design" (as currently implemented) will be good enough for what you have in mind.

But what will work: Hire a Matterport photographer to scan the residential interior you are remodeling/renovating … and then create a dimensional accurate SketchUp model from the .E57 point cloud of the scan. I know this works … because I deliver dimensionally accurarte SketchUp models from Matterport .E57 point clouds on a regular basis for a wide variety of clients.

Meanwhile, if the property changed hands in the DFW Metroplex recently, there is a good chance that the .E57 point cloud already exists … because it is very likely that a Matterport scan was done when the property was first listed … as a natural part of the “real estate listing” process. And if that is the case … all you will have to do is ask the Matterport photographer who did the scan to deliver the .E57 point cloud file to you. All that is required is that the Matterport scan/model still be “active” … that the Matterport photographer who did the scan has a Professional plan (or higher) … and that the scan was done with a Matterport Pro3, Pro2, Pro2 Lite, Pro, or Leica BLK360 G1 camera. This is a pretty low bar … one that almost all of the Matterport photographers in the Metroplex can clear.

But even if the property has not been scanned … hiring a Matterport photographer to do a scan in the Metroplex is not a time consuming or expensive proposition.

Contact me directly if you would like to pursue this.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful insights. I will email you privately.
