LayOut Vertex/Segment Nudge with Arrows

It’s minor, but it would be nice to enable nudge with the arrow keys when manipulating vertices or segments of objects in LO. You can use nudge on the entire object, but on my system, I cannot nudge a vertex, group of vertices, or segment or group of segments or any combination there of.

I assume this is true for all LO users. Maybe Mac users can?

You are able to type in the length / distance if you need precision. Are you needing to nudge for fine tuning? I only find myself fine tuning leader arrows and get by with a mouse

Hey Michael,

I get by with the mouse as well, but I think it’s just nice to have similar/consistent transform functionality whether or not you are moving entities, vertices, or segments. This would be a minor issue to resolve, but I’m guessing, a relatively easy one.

YES! I’ve been wanting this as well!

In LayOut on my Mac, when double-clicking to drill down into a shape or grouped object and edit the linework, I would like to be able to use the arrow keys to “nudge” the nodes around like you can when you’re navigating in the rest of LO. Currently once I drill down into the group and select an individual edge or point node, I can only move it with the cursor, which sometimes is more fussy. I like that the “nudge” spacing is uniform in the app, so easy to keep track of how much you move something consistent between objects by counting arrow taps. Thanks!

Would be an awesome addition! I do a lot of tedious shape work in Layout, and the inability to nudge points makes it a bit of a hassle! As a work around, draw a line or rectangle with corner to the point you want to move > nudge it and then edit the shape and move the point, doesn’t make long!

I had to recreate a client’s logo / motif to create a vector artwork for him, and this feature would have made life much easier!

Question regarding your specific application there: Did you have to do the tracing in LayOut? I downloaded your image and made a vector drawing from it in less than a minute using Inkscape. Here’s the .dxf inserted into LayOut.

I think it would be great to be able to nudge selected vertices with the cursor keys but in something like your mermaid that’s too many vertices to nudge.

I tried to do it that way in illustrator, but the image supplied was so poor the results would have taken more time to clean up than just starting a fresh. It was a bad as a tattoo on a gorillia’s chest!
You got great results from inkscape!

Poor gorilla!

I did get great results. Those were the default settings, too.

Yes, Great ! As long as the nudge distance is user definable !

Actually… that would be a useful feature in SketchUp !

Absolutely! This would create an opportunity to define single nudge distance and if the shift nudge also allowed user defined distance, an entire world of possibilities opens up! I always find myself spacing objects via say example: Shift+Nudge x 2 + 5 single nudges (25), if this could be set, one nudge could cover this move. We again, particularly in Layout, need to remember - its a page layout tool, and pages look best with consistency!

Nice results, the best I could get from the quality of image supplied, resulted in about 100x the anchors you’re results show. Tidy up would have beena nightmare, and I do find LayOut’s curves are so much easier to work with!
