Is this Layout Text Box behavior
- Explanable,
- Fixable ?
New graphics engine or old?
Does it change if you turn off draft mode?
Does it change if you turn off experimental graphics engine?
This was a problem on Mac for awhile and I got used to it, because I wanted speed over accuracy when editing.
Alas, no difference…
Not sure but I think experimental takes affect after restart.

What happens if you move the text box or navigate to another page and back?

@PaulMcAlenan , this behaviour is universal to all text objects - text box, leader text, text in dimension and text in tables, regardless of moving the text box or navigating between pages.
Has no one else noticed this before?
This issue was there way before 2010 too but I guess since my workflow then did not incorporate large text chunks in Layout, it did not seem as much of a problem.
I am making Permit Sets and the long text portions are giving a real hard time.
Just found a similar thread. Someone raised this in 2019. 6 years later and still the same… sad..
Im on a Mac, I only see the glitch when experimental is on.
So, in short, we cant do anything but wait.. maybe this can be moved to ‘feature request’ section?
I was having an editing issue with Layout 2026 yesterday. I had a label I wanted to copy the text out of and paste to a new Label on another sheet. If you edit into the Label and select all the text then right click to copy it blanks out like the OP problem. If I use the edit/ copy from the pill down menu it only copies the first line of text. (I also tested the OP problem on a large text box like general notes same as Op and had no problem in 2023.) This along with many other quirks of 2026 im going back to 2023 yet again. When opening a 2026 file in 2023 there is a compatibility message. I have found no problems. The pain is keeping scrapbooks ect copied and the same across versions. When Layout starts getting more sluggish or weird a shut down and restart helps for a while but its still slow and unresponsive. Many things in 2026 that have been unfixed from older versions. Ive tried turning on and off draft mode graphics what ever. Note if your using Sketchup 2026 and an older version of Layout is open a send to layout will use the open version and I have had no problems updating 2026 Sketchup models to Layout 2023. (in my opinion 2023 is the last stable version of layout 2024 and 2025 had problems as well)
To answer the OP. This what I have been doing. I give an updated version a try but if its lacking I do what Ive stated above. I use Sketchup/Layout fulltime+ productivity matters.
There are Layout text editing glitches that I have had over the years that I have reported but this is not one that I have experienced.
I see the disaapearing text if I select the text and then right click on it. I don’t have any trouble copying the entire text of the label via Edit>Copy/Edit>Paste or with keyboard shortcuts.
I’ve never noticed the disappearing text thing because I would normally copy the entire label.
