“Hide Page” would be an interesting option in the pages panel.
Currently I handle this by doing a quick “save as” for a fresh version of the file, then deleting the pages I don’t want to output, this gives me correct autotext page numbers and page count as well as an auto-updated TOC without affecting the original file.
Adding a setting to override the rendering mode for exporting is something that we are considering adding in the short term. It would be a document wide setting that allows you to set the rendering mode to raster/vector/hybrid, regardless of what each individual SketchUp model viewport is set to. This would apply for any type of output - printing, pdf, dwg, etc. Note that currently the DWG exporter has an option to export all raster viewports as hybrid; this option would be removed in favor of the new global setting. Does this sound like what you are looking for?

That sounds like exactly it! A really useful small change that would be a big time saver for many of us. Thank You! ![]()
Sounds great.
We actually need two new functions:
Under File > Export > PDF, it would be helpful to have another drop-down option:
PDF and render all in Hybrid
(this is so you can start an export, walk away and come back and the PDF is ready)
There would be no need to actually display the hybrid rendered output in Layout using this function.
I wonder if this would speed up and solve some of the really heavy Hybrid scenes which can become super slow or buggy when using hybrid within Layout?
A more useful setting to me, though, would be a simple global override.
It could be found under Edit > Preferences > General > Auto-Render;
Automatically Render all viewports in:
Hybrid mode
Raster mode
Vector mode
This is actually what I was describing: a single setting at the document level that would be used for every export (PDF included).

I would here choose Vector over Hybrid. In typical uses for DWG files (give them to HVAC and electrical consultants to use as an underlay) linked or embedded raster images are generally seen as a nuisance.
If you’e coding to implement a change like this, surely it’s not so different that you have to pick one over another? Just have a selection check either hybrid or vector for overide at export.
Having said this I would definitely pick vector over hybrid of I could only have one .pdf export override .
Before we jump into the deep water, it may be worth considering that vector cannot show textures.
Hybrid does not show dashed lines well.
MIne is Laggy Tooo. SInce Downloading 2023. Much slower than 2022. I keep my models very simple even with many objects.
Did you download 23.1 ?
I find this version to have improved performance over 23.0
23.1.319
Viewport Names, that is up to you the user. For a while in the beginning my viewport names were a mess. I have now worked out a system for my work (Retail environments design and construction) that works very well. All viewports are named in a system I have developed to suit my work flow. Think about categories or areas, location and direction, I also use ISO, PER, PLN and ELV to designate the type of view. Frt, Bak, Rgt, Lft Rrr, Top, and Bot specify direction. Other acronyms particular to my work are set up as standards. All my Acronyms are 3 characters and they make sense to me.
I often have about a hundred viewports defined in SU job. I use maybe 6 to 15 per layout sheet.
I used to prepare one large LO file, sometimes that file would be “laggy”. I have now broken my LO files to three or more smaller files. For instance “Customer Proposal”, “Specifications”, Cabinetry and Fixture construction" and “Installation”. Noticeable improvement in performance.
I am surprised the Trimble folks put out such untested software. Expecting the user to upgrade and then have to trouble shoot the product is ridiculous. I am still using 2022. My day doesnt allow time to troubleshoot work other than my own.
All in all, I am a very satisfied user.
But those are not ‘viewports’ - those are scenes in the SKP model that you are looking at with the ‘viewport’. Currently there is no way to name and control individual viewports - the shape that we are using to look at those scenes - I can have a scene called ‘ISO-North’ and I can have it copied 5 times on the page using 5 different styles, line weights, etc. - there is currently no tool palette or dock that lets name, select and logically and easily control all of these views.
Sorry I mixed up terminology.
The next question; why might you want or need to “name and control” individual viewports?
I have the same problem with that version (23.1), but I understand that they have improved performance, which is why I am thinking of updating my computer
If you read the post I was replying to you would see that a previous poster was looking for options to control which viewports render vector, hybrid, raster at export time. They want to work in raster (fast) but need various viewports rendered differently. This is what I was replying to and musing that would be cool, and you would need some sort of control panel to manage which got rendered which way.
Has anyone from this topic realised yet that 23.1 has this feature ?
It’s in the document settings/rendering tab.
It’s even on by default, which to me is a nuisance… exporting in hybrid or vector takes so much longer than exporting in raster, which is what I usually use ![]()
But it’s good that the option is there ![]()
Converting the raster viewports to vector during the export has been possible for a long time, but you had to check a box on the exporting options to do that, now it’s on the document setup.
That was changed with the latest update, now you have to create a template if you want to have the feature activated by default.
I AGREE WITH MIKEHERSEY.
Dave the Sage I hope you can help.
Enough! I’m frustrated.
I am an architect who uses Sketchup / Layout for the base 5 years or so.
Layout is WAY too slow and awkward…mostly SLOW… so slow that I think maybe I need another program to use with Sketchup…
I’m designing an 850 sf adu.
I’ve cleaned up the Sketchup file via Model Info / Statistics. Purged Unused, Fixed Problems. It’s 27.5 mb.
I’ve cleaned up the Layout file via It’s 47.7 mb
I’ve got everything organized on Tags as well as Grouping all elements.
In Sketchup the checkmark is beside “untagged” as it should always be when drawing.
I’ve got “edges” turned off.
Yup brought in furniture, etc from 3d Warehouse, but used small kb ones, not huge mb ones.
All Scenes are either in Raster or Vector. God forbid I’d like Hybrid but is even slower
I’ve got 5 pages of Layout drawings that I want to save as a pdf set.
Tried saving thru “Print” - has taken Hours so I quit, says Layout (Not Responding).
Also tried Exporting / as a pf but it too, spins forEVER.
So I can’t print or get a pdf of my project.
This is consistently an issue for me.
Another big issue is when you ask the Layout model to re-render form the Sketchup model - should be instantaneous. Takes several minutes to hours.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Are you on version 2023 like your profile says your not…?
If so then…
I’m sure Dave is going to say – share your file.
Nobody can really help you otherwise.
