Layout 2026 will not allow users to increase font size beyond 72pt due to the new Qt based UI. When might someone need a font size larger than 72pt? The number of scenarios are unlimited (UE 101). One example however……a cover page for construction documents and the title blocks on a standard Arch E page? (painfully common)

“Hi, this is a known issue with our new Qt based UI that we are working to fix in the next update.
Sorry for the inconvenience,
Adam”
I’m an architect and have been using Sketchup / Layout for many years. I have consistently felt that Layout has become increasingly ‘buggy’, which is both time-consuming and costly for me.
Out of curiosity, and just for a little fun, I asked Google’s AI “WHY HAS TRIMBLE SKETCHUP GOTTEN WORSE?” (Please note I did not use ‘Layout’ in the prompt)
AI response:
“Trimble’s SketchUp is perceived by many users as having declined due to its shift to a subscription model, removal of starter materials, unstable LayOut performance, and a perceived lack of core code modernization, making it feel less intuitive and more focused on revenue than user experience, though some still find it powerful with extensions. Complaints center on price hikes, confusing updates (like material thumbnails), and performance issues, while supporters value its core functionality and extension ecosystem. “
AI’s response also included this:
“Lack of Core Development: Some feel Trimble isn’t investing enough in upgrading the core code, causing performance bottlenecks and lagging behind hardware/software advancements, even while marketing it as a professional tool.”
The above, along with a video link from a notable Sketchup Power-user musing whether Sketchup is being a replaced by Rhino.
Control of font size beyond 72pt is important. Was the decision to release the newest version with this bug made by senior management?
