I am not experiencing the new and improved speed of layout 2026 that I have seen on many reviews.
Drawing a line, zooming in and out, saving or going to the next page is so painfully slow. I don’t know how to fix it.
Would someone please look at my model and layout and see if there is something that I have overlooked? I did a repair install to see if that would help but it doesn’t.
I have the same experience with the new version. And other issues such as text resizing that doesn’t work below 8 points, text buttons on the toolbar that don’t exist no more… Configuration pannel bugs, showing information related to previous file opened… grrrr !
The LO file was a wee bit slow in LO2026 on my computer but not terrible considering all of the viewports. No real problem with changing pages, zoom, or drawing things with the native tools. I did a little cleanup in the SketchUp file and relinked in LO. There was a performance improvement, then.
The cleanup. Fixed incorrect tag usage, purged unused stuff, and resized the oversized texture images. No point in having such large textures.
Thanks everyone. I went to PT after I posted this topic. Sorry for the late response. Maybe its my computer?
To answer DaveR, this project was started in SU 2024, put on hold, now I am trying to get it ready for approvals and it is just so ineffcient.
I did use CleanUp3 and it reduced the size of the file by about 10k kb. There is no improvement in LO for me after relinking.
Thank you for your answers. I’m a French user so I’m sorry for my bad translations ! Let’s use chatgpt to help me translating :
Here are the issues I am encountering:
Text cannot be smaller than 8 pt, and text boxes automatically reformat to 10 pt when moving the text entities.
I am noticing text display bugs: double line spacing appears when leaving the editing mode, even though it is not present while editing the text.
Empty cells in Tables lose their fill attributes and become transparent.
On the Windows version, the Toolbar is restricted: it is no longer possible to add text-related icons (horizontal alignment, vertical alignment, etc.) unlike in previous versions.
From an ergonomic standpoint, it is difficult to see whether the color swatch frames (stroke, fill, material) are selected or not. The selection contrast is no longer sufficient.
The panel displayed under Document Setup presents a bug: when switching between open files, the References panel keeps showing the references of the very first file opened. It is impossible to update external references without closing everything and working with only one file at a time.
I hope my explanations are clear. These issues currently prevent me from using my existing Layout files properly.
yep, it’s a known bug. waiting for a fix in next release
that one too.
indeed, I believe they are only in the text panel on your right, they’re working on making both interfaces the same (LO and SU) and with the same toolbar system. Haven’t got a PC on hand but if you right click on the toolbar, I assume there is no “text” specific one ?
I believe this has been notified also, and I hope it’s coming. the whole contrast problem is a general problem since the new UI in 2023. we lost a lot of contrast overall
this is also a know bug.
if you go from top to bottom it’s broken. but if you start with the bottom panel and move up it works. go figure.
Thank you for the detailed answers and for acknowledging the issues. Do you know when the next update is scheduled? Our workflow is being impacted, and it’s difficult to work with peace of mind with such bugs
No one knows except maybe some SketchUp staff… and they won’t ever comment on it.
For the future - do not move on from the previous version until you get a chance to test the new version. Do not jump into the new version with production work until you know it works for you.
I skipped over 23, stayed with 22 for the longest time.
You do not have to remove older versions when you update - they stay installed and untouched in their own folder. So next time - install the newest version but slowly test things out - but stick with what works.
For me this means - that if it pays the bills it doesn’t get changed until I know it works.
And here is the text when I exit the editing mode: incredibly large line breaks appear and cannot be adjusted using the text settings panel, since some line spacings are preserved, others appear where there were none, and others are doubled…
I agree there are performance issues. My SU models are pretty clean. I cannot purge tags because the template has empty tags so that when I edit the model it doesnt create “homeless” tags. I have found when Layout starts getting weird I need to save and restart Layout. That usually cleans it up for a while. But often just selecting a dimension or viewport or?? will send Layout into a not responding event for a while. Hardware might be an issue. I have a decent computer. 16gb of ram I know 32gb might help. Seems more like a memory problem than graphics or something else.
Are the two biggest things that slow down LayOut (way more so in Hybrid and Raster).
Styles with profiles, depth cue, environments, AO are next in line.
I only work in LO in raster. Use Raster or Hybrid override 50/50 depending on the job for export.
Very happy with how snappy it feels these days - but I upgraded hardware in fall 2024 and there have also been improvements to the engines in both SU and LO.
I wasnt claiming tags empty or not affect performance. It seems like when ever performance is addressed one part of the solution process is to purge tags. I never purge tags.
What do you mean by fixing incorrect tag usage could help with performance? I don’t understand how that works. Can you tell me what was wrong with the tags also please?
I am certainly not arguing. I always appreciate these threads and will always be learning. I think in my case a hardware upgrade will make a difference. You make good points I think you mentioned the number of viewports. I am curious how many is too many. My average drawing set for a single family home is 15 to 20 D size sheets. Each sheet has multiple view ports with some stacked as working view ports that are not visible unless being used for dimensioning or other annotations.
Perhaps a video from the SU team about the impact of these things right and wrong practices would help everyone.
