Laptop Workstation optimized for SketchUp 2025 and VRAY

HI all,

I am an architectural designer and have been using Sketchup professionally for about 20 years. I have one workstation set up at my office and another at my home office. I would like to replace both of these computers with one powerful laptop so I don’t spend so much time logging in and out of my Sketchup license and so that all of my plug-ins toolbars etc. are identical when I dock the computer at either office. I am a little nervous because since upgrading to 2025 (studio) I have noticed a lot of glitching with the graphics engine/layout etc. I want to make sure that I purchase a machine that is durable and has the right hardware to run SketchUp 2025 and VRAY without lots of crashes. I appreciate any advice that folks are willing to give. Thank you in advance.

Best,

Ben

There are a lot of threads discussing this topic, you can search them. In the mean time you can check the chaos website for system requirements. Basically for sketchup and layout you don’t need 16 cores, sketchup uses just one core so getting the cpu with better single core performance is the best option, for Vray you should get an Nvidia gpu, you can also render using cpu but the gpu is like 10 times faster, the specs will depend on your budget, a laptop with the best AMD cpu and the best Nvidia gpu could get over $4000, and they’re not mobile devices at all, they need to be plugged to give you full performance, building a tower will cost you less and will get you better performance.
