Buying new laptop advice

Hi all,

I am new here and I after a little bit of advice. I have been using sketch up professional now for around 2 years and it is becoming a vital part of my work. I have just purchased my new licence for 2021 along with V-ray 5.

I am currently working on a Dell Desktop PC with 12GB RAM and a NVIDIA Quadro P2000 5GB Graphics Card. The machine seems to cope well with the level of work ask from it. However this is a work PC and I am now getting to the stage of needing my own person PC/Laptop for modeling and rendering.

My question is what does everybody suggest would be a suitable replacement? I am not appose to a desktop style machine however if possible a Laptop would be more beneficial as ideally I would like to be able to offer a one to one onsite design service with clients.

I have heard from different people that anything Apple would be best and from others that a decent gaming PC would be better. I am still very new to this and my knowledge on hardware is limited so any advice would be very appreciated.

I am looking to spend anything between £800.00 and £1,500.00 top end, is this going to be enough budget for a suitable machine and can anything make any suggestions?

Thank you all for your time and help in advance

Do NOT spend money on a Quadro card for SketchUp! Get the best RTX based unit you can afford for Vray imo. Thus you will NOT be getting an Apple computer. Also get the cpu with the best single-thread performance that you can also afford.

What @SeanB says.
About V-ray: on Apple computers, only CPU rendering is available, on PC-s, CUDA or RTX rendering requires a Nvidia-based graphics card.
Computers today tend to come with 16GB of memory. If you have the money, it isn’t a bad idea to get more, but in any case do not settle for less.
