I have a student trying to use the tape measure tool, but his tape measure doesn’t run through (see attachment) hard to explain, so when he deletes the line, you can see the inside of the house.
Any ideas what he needs to do?
Is he using the select tool or the eraser tool? If he selects the line with either tool, is he clicking it with the house in the background or the sky? If the house or any group or component is in the background, it might accidently get selected, too. Is the house loose geometry or is it grouped or componentized?

Do you know how to create a group and how to create a component?
In your first image it looks like the eave is not in the same plane as the roof, so when a guide is drawn parallel to an edge of the roof it passes behind the eave.
