Issue with Components Widow List Indenting

In the last month or so I’ve discovered that the components window is for some reason indenting random components in the list view - which makes them look like subcategories of other components, which of course, don’t exist. Its super annoying, and I’m guessing something is corrupted somewhere. No other lists (like tags or materials) have the same issue. Anyone else seen this issue or solved it? If not, any suggestions of how I might fix it?

Using SU PRO v 26.1.256 64 bit

Here are a few screenshots

I usually display thumbnails for components but I just checked the List view. This is what I’m seeing in SketchUp 2026.

What operating system? Your profile says Win 7 but it also says you’re using SketchUp 2018. Please update that information.

I updated my profile- thanks Dave. Any clues on this would be great. I use the list view as its more compact and easier to navigate if the components are clearly named and organized (easier said than done by I try).

Thanks for updating your profile.

I get the reasoning for using the List view and I also get the struggle to name all the components appropriately.

As for clues, I’m not certain. One thing you could try would be to repair the SketchUp installation. It might help and certainly won’t hurt anything. Find the downloaded installer or get it again from Download the latest version of SketchUp 3D modeling software | SketchUp and right click on it. Choose Run as administrator and when prompted click Repair. Long shot but it may help.

Where are you saving your components?

I think I’ve done that (repair) a week or so back but will try it again, good advice.

I store all my SU components (and materials and everything else) on my D drive (and thence copied to Dropbox). I don’t think I’ve changed that in 10 years (not a fan of having it buried in my user profile on my C drive). I would have thought that the components list is actually in my SU user files or something But its actively doing this to the file, which suggests its not a corrupt list file, but something about the install as you suggest. Very odd. Recently started with one of the recent updates I always dread for exactly this same reason (takes hours out of a work day). Minor problem, but annoying. Thanks for your help.

Is SketchUp actually looking at DropBox for your components?

As a test, what do you see if you put some of your componnts in the default location and reset the folder to the default?

Was this just a maintenance release update of SketchUp 2026? That shouldn’t take more than a couple of minutes.

BTW, you aren’t working on files saved directly to DropBox are you?
