Is there an effective way of creating straps (as in seat straps)?

UPDATE: I gave up on Clothworks, it’s a struggle trying to get it to work, seems I have to download and install another software for it to work!

Going to try Curviloft. You know what they say, “Third time’s a charm”

Oh come on!! I have to install extra software for Curviloft to work??
That’s like buying a pen, only to be told I have to buy the ball to put into the nib, for it to work.
I’m tempted to give up!

Fredo tools has a library that is used to run about 10 extensions. One library isn’t such a big deal to install. Took me longer to write this than it would to install libfredo.

If this is your threshold for giving up, you should do it.

I think what Cotty is saying is, if you are opposed to installing extensions in order to get functionality that SketchUp does not natively over, you may be out of luck. SketchUp focusses hard on keeping the base tools simple and easy to learn. We leave the specialized modeling workflows to extension developers, and Curviloft is an amazing tool that a LOT of SketchUp users rely on for this sort of lofting process.

Many extensions including Curviloft, are generously provided free of charge too. The developers put the hard work in, all that’s left for us to do is install and use it.

I meant I installed Curviloft, and tried it, only to be told by a pop-up that I have to install LibFredo6 for Curviloft to work. That’s kind of like you want to install, say for example, Microsoft Word only to be told you have to install some .dll files which should have already been included in the first place!

I am not opposed to installing specialist extensions. I am opposed to the idea of installing one extension only to be told I can’t use it unless I install another extension.

If Curviloft comes with a built-in LibFredo6, then I wouldn’t be wary of installing “extra software” just for the one software I want to work.

Anyway…

Guys, guys, I want to say many thanks for suggesting the three different options, the three different extensions that you feel would benefit my design.

I have installed one after other, but sadly, while some of them did show something promising, and look good in those video clips I saw, they didn’t give me the effect I hoped for.

“On paper” they could have and should have worked, they looked like what I needed, but I don’t know why they’re not working with the design I have.

I’ve decided to change my design. Instead of a shoulder and belt strap hanging over the seat, I’ve opt for some kind of a rolling straps, so I’ve designed it to look like the shoulder and belt straps have rolled into a housing, and they’re showing just the clips.

Maybe I’ll use those extensions for something else if the needs do come up.

Well, thanks anyway, worth a try.

So case closed.

So you did give up?

I admit sometimes it is frustrating (adding extensions and such) but it’s worth doing and learning.

Actually, it’s easy now. Several years ago, you were expected to install .rbz’s yourself. It’s pretty much automated now.

Best wishes, as you progress, you will grow to love SketchUp.
