For alot of my work, I only want to work in 2d, i.e. drawing quick floorplans to only record dimensions of rooms. My fat fingers have me orbiting constantly, or perhaps I’m just not familiar with the interface yet and I keep having to reset the scene.
I would create a scene for the floor plan view so that any time you accidentally orbit, you could get back with a single click (or whatever the gesture is in iPad)
Not possibile yet; it’s indeed something requested in the past, not only for the iPad app but for SketchUp everywhere. We’ll see if the dev teams will release such a feature in the future.
Meanwhile you can use the workarounds reported: create a plan scene or disable orbit gesture.
In the Settings, you can change the one-finger gesture to do nothing or “Pan”. If you like, you can also change the two-finger gesture to “Orbit” so that you can still orbit but less likely by accident.
Yeah, this is the best workaround as of today. But this is a feature request that needs (somehow) to became structural: while designing a designer often switches between 3D and 2D thinking. Consciously and quickly inhibit Orbit for a while - force 2D panning with the usual orbit gesture/command - would be an useful addition, I’ve always imagined this as a button with orbit+padlock as icon
