Intermediate Attempts 3D Modeling the Lincoln Memorial

This time on SketchUp Live, I’ll take on Washington DC’s Lincoln Memorial.
Can I do it in two hours? Where will I stumble? What is neoclassical, anyway?

Tune in and give me some pointers!

Quarter the main body and component it, mirror to get the remaining 3

Make each column a component … obviously. Start with the square capital, it looks like the space between the capitals is the same as the capital size.
12 columns +11 spaces = 23 units wide
8 columns + 7 spaces = 15 units deep.

All the details above the columns seem to be at the same pitch as the columns so they can be incorporated into the column component after the roof is built.

For the glass roof, you only have to build 1/2 of the 2 sides and 1/4 of the centre one, the quarter componenting will do the rest.

Once finished make the 2 rear quarters unique and remove the 2 inner columns and close the back wall.

Build the steps as a separate element.

Let’s go Matt, you can do this for sure. Just channel your inner Aaron, Eric and Tyson modes and don’t forget to include a good boneyard of components. Remeber to build large and scale back to get the detail you’re gonna want and most of all…

…Have fun, I’m sure those of us in the chat will.
