Roll back your OS to something before Sonoma. Not an easy job but possible unless it’s a new machine.

Don’t change to another section in the Colors palette. If it does crash, you can reopen SketchUp and it will be on the section you changed to.
I made a model that has all of the standard materials in it, so you could keep that open to go and get one of the regular materials. See the file attached to this topic:
Everything was working well then my laptop died and I had to get a new Macbook Pro M2.
Can I downgrade from here?
I’m on a classic 2020 subscription. I dont have the money to upgrade at the moment, and seems like a extreme expense just because of annoying glitch…
Possibly not. It’s never easy but I have had to do this with other Macs. In brief you back everything up, wipe the drive and enter internet recovery mode which prompts the machine to reinstall whatever system it shipped with, could be years and years old, then upgrade back through the years until you reach the desired system, then reinstall data. It’s a pain and not for the faint of heart. In your case it’s likely your M2 was factory shipped with a Sonoma version that is too new, I believe you would need no later than 14.2 to avoid the bug. Perhaps the Genius Bar can help you get downgraded to 14.2. It’s not a simple thing.
I bought the mini mac M2 and I keep crashing every time when changing materieal.
Using sketchup pro 2024. Can someone help me?
