Improving Speed: Toggle Window Tray in SketchUp?

Hello again,

I’m looking for a way to assign shortcuts to toggle window trays in SketchUp to speed up my workflow.

Current Issues:
I spend a lot of time switching between the 3D viewport and window trays to access tools, often having to scroll down to find what I need.

To speed things up, I use shortcuts to open specific trays:

Shortcut 1: Entity Info tray
Shortcut 2: Tag tray
Shortcut 3: Material tray
Shortcut 4,5,6… : Open other trays

This works well for accessing tools quickly, but I have to manually close each tray after using it.

Looking for Solutions:

  1. Is there a way to assign a shortcut that toggles trays (open/close) rather than just opening them?
  2. Can I assign a shortcut specifically to close a tray?

Thank you very much for your help again

Hello, try to use a private tab for each tray. For example, you can go to menu Window > New Tray, then choose only one for that tray. Then you only need to switch between tabs, not need to expand or collapse trays.
The result looks like this:

Previously (as I remember sometimes around SU2016 version) it was passable via Ruby code to achieve this. But this ability has been removed.

What @Cyentruk offered a very clever solution, since your shortcuts will switch between these tabs!! :+1:

In Preferences > Shortcuts you can set Toggle Visibility for each tray that you have…

Thank you so much! This is a great tip—it’ll definitely save me from wasting time scrolling!

@dezmo
I also hope this feature comes back.
Alternatively, SketchUp could consider changing the default command from “show tray” to “toggle tray,” so we can use the same keystroke to show and hide the tray more easily.

I’ve had a shortcut assigned to toggle the window tray for a long time, but the issue is that it toggles all trays at once.
What I really want is the ability to toggle a specific tray when I need it. For example, if I’m thinking about materials, I’d like to press one key and have only the material tray pop up.

By the way, I got the inspiration for using a separate numpad keyboard from you !

Thank you so much! I’ve already tested your tip, and it might actually be the solution I needed. Now, I no longer have to keep scrolling down to find trays.

I can just use the keystroke for quick access! Your reply really helps me work faster !!
