I see Dave answered your question over there anyway.
For the record this is Tigs plugin.
Sweeeeet. Got it! Just got to learn how to use now. Love getting new tools. Need a bigger tool belt soon.
Thanks guys.
Ha. Just saw Dave’s answer on SketchUcation. Wow. Awesome response. Got tied up watching Nick Kyrgios lose his match in the Aussie Tennis Open. Can’t handle the heat. Although it is bloody hot here at the moment. I digress, back to SU and learning how to use my new plugin.
Tried it on my image but it made SU unresponsive for about 15 mins whilst it “created edges”. I used Task Manager to stop SU. I’ve attached the png image I’m using. I think (maybe) it is too detailed for Tigs plugin - Image Trimmer, to deal with. Besides, so many edges would up the file size which is why I’m trying to use an image to model the tree with. It’s an Australian native species that I work with often. Not readily available as a CAD model (that I now of anyway).
The only devil I know about is in the detail. I think I’ve got too much here.
Shame transparent backgrounds aren’t shadow transparent in SU. I suppose that’s why render engines exist.
Maybe I should start a new topic - “Tree Challenge”. Save me some time. Lol.
It is a lot of detail and it takes time for the plugin to iterate through all of the pixels to to cut out the shape. I expect if you give it enough time, it would manage to do it eventually. It would also create a phenomenal number of edges. If you tried using it in a model with other stuff, it would probably make your computer crawl.
For something like this I would be more inclined to quickly and roughly cut out the shape with the Freehand tool. You won’t get the shadow of every twig and leaf but something like that won’t case a sharp shadow anyway unless the shadow receiver is immediately behind the branch.
Yeah, I tend to agree about the file size. I might try the cut out method although not sure where to begin. I’m thinking I can live with the rectangular shadows and use rendering for my desired effect. I can still see where the shadow falls etc. Just use render to get full detailed effect. Got a new useful plugin though & learnt a few things as well. Gotta be happy with that.
Thanks for the help.
