I’ve done it before, several times, but today I must be doing it wrong. Click Import, select .jpg the select the picture, it comes into the drawing with a strange icon:
Enter or clicking does nothing space bar deletes the picture.
That indicates you’ve select to use the image as a texture/material in the Import window and then you don’t have a face onto which it can be applied. Choose to use it as an image instead.
