Import lined from Sketchup to Layout

I am trying to speed up my workflow and I am curious if anyone could help.

Is there a way to import “linework from SketchUp” ( I am thinking of the Section Cut Lines you generate with the Section Plane using the “Crate Group from Slice” ) to Layout. I am looking to get editable section cut lines which I can then modify without the need of modifying the model.

I tried to generate this Group Slices out of all section cut and then put it in front of Sketchup Model as I need to delete lines and I add fills (basically I manually creating Tig’s Section Cut Face layers)…I my try this extension too.

I don’t have much time to experiment so I would appreciate some methods to do this.

I am normally draw a section line over the SketchUp model. I don’t always need all the lines, so the default section cut line and fill will not work. I can manipulate the Group Slice very well to my liking in SketchUp , but it would be easier to this in Layout - so I dot need to revert back to Sketchup for minor changes. Needless to say with a complex model drawing over the outline of the model is time consuming…Hence my enquiry. If you know any rime saving tips, let me know.

See sample file for refence for the final drawing

If you give the group from slice a tag so you can show it by itself in a viewport in LayOut, use the Hidden Line face style, render the viewport as Vector, and then explode the viewport, the edges with convert into LayOut drawing entities which you can then edit in LayOut.

Viewport on the left showing the model, in the middle just the Group from Slice, on the right after exploding the viewport.

Thank you! I knew if there is away you would know…Brilliant.

P.s.: I didn’t now you can explode the viewport into lines…

You’re welcome.

You can. If the viewport is rendered as Raster it becomes a raster image. If it’s rendered as Hybrid you’ll get a raster image and vector lines.

Remember that by exploding the viewport you disconnect it from the SketchUp model.

Is there a way to use a viewport with a specific style (showing only the section line) and explode the linework of the vector viewport instead of having to generate a layer and a scene for each section cut?

Also, updating the drawing would be quicker - although it will still have to be done manually in Layout, it would save a lot of time.

Or would it be easier to save the section slice as dwg and bring it into Layout?

How about turning off all tags except those showing the objects being cut and then exploding the viewport?

Not sure about having a style applied to the section cut lines prior to exploding…

Yes. That’s an option.

I was just wondering if it would be possible to set up a Style to do the same - only show the section line…

All other line turned off and wireframe? I will experiment with Rhys if I have time.

I don’t know if this helps…

I used to use the “Matt Donley Method” some years ago to isolate a section cut fill.

But I don’t know where my templates are to experiment so I don’t know if it would work as intended when you explode the viewport.

I’m not sure if this is what you are after or if it is, it’s a worthwhile workflow.

On a current project I made tags transparent and created a new style and was able to explode the resulting Layout viewport showing just the section lines.

This method does not work if you need coloured tags in the SketchUp model.
