I need help with Google Earth

Hi everybody,

I have a project in Las Vegas, but I only have Sketchup 8 pro and cannot download the terrain. I am looking for someone who would be kind enough to download the terrain for me. Here on the picture is the sample of the area that I need. I need a large area that encompass the Las Vegas suburbs, the lake an the canyon.

Thank you for your help.
Kind regards,

Eima

Hello! I tried capturing this whole location for you but SketchUp says it’s too large. Do you have any workarounds?

The white square in the center represents the largest area that could be captured in a single grab. It would take hundreds of captures to cover that area. It’s unlikely that SketchUp would handle all of that and even if it could, it would be very time consuming and generate a huge file. Perhaps you need to hire someone and pay them to do it. It would probably be less costly to you to upgrade to SU2016 Pro and try it yourself.

Or you could just make a screen shot and import that. Perhaps it would give you enough information.

If you need terrain maybe you can try some free GIS software that can export to Sketchup? then you can apply the image as a texture to your imported geometry? just throwing that out there.

Found this…

Hi everybody and thank you very much for you trying. I guess I will have to work with 2D maps then recompose the terrain with blender.

I will try Qgis. It seems to be the best solution. I have tried Screengrab with Firefox, but it does not work so well.
Thank you anyway for your help.
Bests regards,

Hi everybody,

I have tried Qgis, but I could not manage to have a 3D useful file. The program has many bugs and I would not recommend it.
I have tried Terrain2STL which works fine on a larger scale than sketchup, but the resolution is not so good and it is difficult to sample a map on this.
I am still experiencing solutions.
Have fun.
Regards,

Eima

By the way, you can still download the terrain by SketchUpPro 8 with following help.
