I have a sketchup model that I have worked extensively on that was saved less than 6 hours ago and is now no longer identifying as a sketchup file.

That file is completely filled with zeros. Look in the same folder to see if there is a .SKB file that has the same name. You can rename that file and change the extension to .skp instead of .skb. See if that then opens.

You were likely working on and saving to a file in the cloud. Always save and work on your files on your local drive then only back up to off site cloud services…this applies to all graphic intensive programs.

Hi, I tried your file & it does appear fried…
You might get lucky looking in the recovery folder
C:\Users*Username*\AppData\Local\SketchUp\SketchUp2023\SketchUp\working\SKETCHUP\RecoveredFiles
But as @Sonder says, in the future, working on a local file is safer…
Good luck
