Hello please help me! I can’t open a specific skp file. I can open other files, but when I open this one, it keeps on receiving BugSplat. The file is huge; I have a lot of models from 3D Warehouse. What should I do?
Share the .skp file. Since it’s huge upload it to DropBox or Google Drive and share the link. Make sure you make the file accessible.
Have you tried renaming the backup .skb file to .skp and opening that?
Have you been sending in the Bug Splat reports with your name and email address attached?
Where have you been saving the file while working on it? Did you experience a power failure?
That’s a common reason for files to become bloated and difficult to work with.
What graphics card. It does matter so “na” is not a good answer in your forum profile.
Here is the file. I use 11th Gen Intel(R)
Yes, I tried renaming the .skb file and it did not work
Yes, I have sent a report
I did not experience power failure
That doesn’t identify the graphics card.
Maybe @colin can look them up to see what they show.
Where have you been saving this file while working on it?
This is what I see when I open your file on my computer. The fact it won’t open on yours leads me to think it’s a hardware problem on your end.
I’ll see if I can clean it up a bit to make it manageable for you.
So far I see incorrect tag usage which I fixed.
Lots of excessively large textures. They bloat your file without adding any benefit because SketchUp down samples them anyway.
You have a lot of overly detailed components from the 3D Warehouse. Examples are the computer keyboard (which is reversed) with the 3D characters on the buttons that are all but invisible and the unneeded little details on the mouse.
Unless the “story” of your model is about the keyboard and mouse, much simpler versions could be used and make the same point.
I ran CleanUp3 which did the following.
The cleanup so far as reduced the file size by about 26% but it needs more. You need to be using simpler components from the 3D Warehouse. There’s no need for using the most detailed components you can find.
I’ll upload it and share the link shortly. You can try to open it and then, before you add anything else to it, replace the entourage with sensible components.
See if you can open this version.
I can open the file. Thank you so much for your help!
