How to prevent textures from bleeding into hidden intersection faces of Beams and Columns?

Hi everyone,

I am facing an issue regarding texture application on overlapping groups (specifically Beams and Columns) in SketchUp 2024.

The Problem: My Beams and Columns are separate groups and they are simply overlapping each other without actual split lines inside the groups. When I apply a texture to the Column’s faces (using the Paint Bucket or ThruPaint), the texture also gets applied to the top face which is hidden behind the Beam.

My Goal: I want to apply textures ONLY to the visible side faces of the Column and avoid the intersection area (the top face) where it meets the Beam, without having to manually enter every group to perform “Intersect Faces with Model”.

Current Setup:

  • Version: SketchUp 2024

  • Extensions used: Fredo6 ThruPaint, Selection Toys.

Is there a way or an extension that can automatically “detect” these intersections and prevent textures from being applied to those hidden faces? Or a tool that can perform “Intersect Faces” into multiple groups at once from the outside?

Thank you for your help!

Upgrade to 2026 and see if it resolves itself.

Build with solids and trim the beams to the columns. There is no way to let the rendering engine know what should and shouldn’t be visible when you have 2 surfaces fighting for the same space, or 2 surfaces very close together.

Also post your model so we don’t have to guess what’s going on.
