What is the best way to “lighten” imported AutoCAD lines inside SketchUp?
Is there a way of applying a grey scale to them so that they are not so prominent?

Can you show an example of what you want it to look like? It might be that all you need to do is put a rectangle in above the lines and give it a semi transparent fill.
That will work, Thanks Dave!
You can also use Fog if you place the linework below or behind the things you do in SketchUp.
You can change the color of the linework globally by going to the Styes dialog and editing the Edge properties.
At first I was thinking you could use Color by Layer in Styles, but then realized that only effects surfaces, not lines. It’s too bad there isn’t an option for Color by Layer to effect lines. By having black, dark grey and light grey layers for lines, you could achieve more subtlety of linework in SU.
