How to draw a tennis ball?

Hi everybody.

I know I’m a pain in the neck, my English isn’t good enough to explain sometimes what I really want.
I opened a couple of topics asking about how to draw a pattern around a sphere with not much success.

But now I found an example that I think it adjust to what I’m interested in.

In Spain we use an idiom that says: a picture worths more than a thousand of words.

  • How to approach a design like that using SketchUP?

I’m interested also in the reliev of the traces.

I’d like to know several possibilities, using extensions and using native tools.

EDIT:

PS: Is it possible to refer a picture in a smaller size? I think this one is pretty big haha.

@john_drivenupthewall I already watched and understood the tutorial.

It’s cool.

Just as a commentary, there are two plugins involved in the easiest and fastest proccess, I think it would take lot of time using native tools and it shouldn’t be like that in my opinion.
