How dumb are the new Materials options?

You cant tell what color you’re getting. The names dont even make sense. Why cant we just go back to the old materials library? Can Trimble please stop doing stupid things?

Totally agree. For now, the workaround is to modify the Materials tab yourself by copying the old materials folder back in.

here, flat web colours.

Yes 2024 didn’t have this issue. Came with later versions. When using the eye dropper to find out which material was used, it doesn’t switch to the material any longer. You need to again drag and drop it inside your in model section to be able to have it selected and then make changes to it e.g. scale, hsb slider, open in photoshop editor etc…so annoying another fix hopefully for 2027.

Ah and now I need to buy a new computer because intel will not be supported any longer 2027 ongoing. Bummer…so dealing with older bugs or investing in a new Mac to get more bugs. Hard decision…

You definitely don’t need to do that in the Windows interface.

That will be fixed in the 2027 version for you on Mac I’m sure.

As a colorblind person i totally agree with you.
Those color names are ffd up and, at leat for me, make no sence.
So yes, i hardly use them new materials and have the old onces (v22) attached.

Yes nice for those who will have a silicon apple…
Since I have an Intel and SketchUp 2027 will no longer support intels I would have to buy a new Mac with silicon version. So while the bug maybe fixed unfortunately for many it wont who will still work with Intel surfaces…well it is what it is…

Ah, that’s unforunate. Well I guess you’ve done well out of a 5+ year old mac.

I remember how annoyed I was when my apple watch stopped being supported and I had no option but to use an old phone or buy a new watch

Here is a script that will create standard mateirals from the list of Ral classic colors on wikipedia.

They will appear in your mateirals folder providing it’s the default.

Paste it straight into extensions, developer, ruby console

I feel your pain, being in the same spot with my 2019 16” MBP. Apple is ending support, and it seems Trimble took that as their lead to abandon those of us who hadn’t planned to upgrade yet. I’m retired and can no longer justify a computer as a business expense! Gotta save up my Pennie’s!

Thank you for your sympathy :mending_heart: We have survived years of SketchUp Bugs we can do this probably a while longer  Maybe we designers will become all redundant next year and it won’t matter…you enjoy your retirement! I will need to think hard wether to invest 2.7 K on the new M5…

2016 MBP here, SKP 2025 is the last supported year that will run on this machine. That said 11 years is a GREAT run for a laptop, works out to $400 CDN/year incl taxes and AppleCare.

*That’s assuming it doesn’t die of old age in the next 14 months…

I am from germany, using Sketchup since nearly 20 years. I knew nearly all the tricks and worked quite fast on windows.. Since i have my new macbookPro with SKP 2026 i have the same issue. What the hack did the do? Its worse than ever.. Simple editing of a Material is not possible. I use the Command Button to get it, but cannot change the colour. WTF. Does anybody can help me out? Thank you, best Klaus

The native tags and materials panels (and scenes… and components… and the tray basically) and are borderline unusable. There are a lot of suitable plugins for both though.

I think it may be that you are trying to edit the original materials, which it won’t let you do. You can only edit the colors in the “Colors in Model” list, so you have to use a standard color once, and then you can edit it in the Colors in Model list.
