Hi everyone, I’m encountering the “Unexpected File Format” error when trying to open my .skp file. I’ve tried renaming the .skb backup and using SketchUp Viewer, but no luck. Once you update to SketchUp 2025, take a few minutes to clean up your model file. That will help you get better performance and make your work easier.
Fix incorrect tag usage. All edges and faces should be untagged.
Purge unused content from the model. There’s no reason to be hoarding all those components and materials.
And make the huge textures a reasonable size. There’s no benefit to having black or gray color materials that are 10,600 pixels wide. They really don’t even need to be textures. Solid colors would work fine and contribute very little to the load in your model.
