Help migrating customs materials from SU 2021 on old iMac to SU 2021 on new iMac

Did this before …but this time I am not successful ,
I airdropped Materials and template files from old iMac to new .
Dragged them in ~/library/sketchUp2021
but they don’t appear in the Bucket

Have you tried the complete path:

/Users/your_name/Library/Application Support/SketchUp 2021/SketchUp/Materials

Also, did you quit and restart SketchUp after transferring the files? Note, the path you cited is both incomplete and mis-capitalized. The one @jean_lemire_1 gave is correct.

What I did was drag the file from my desktop into materials through;
Library/Application Support/SketchUp 2021/SketchUp/Materials
I could see them with the new Sketchup logo and when I click on one of them, message say’s file cannot be found.
I did the same with migrating my templates in Layout and that works!

Please confirm that you actually mean the path that @jean_lemire_1 gave. The path

Library/Application Support/...

exists, but is not the same as the path

~/Library/Application Support/...
(aka /Users/userid/Library/Application Support/...)

This is important because Finder normally hides ~/Library and you could easily have put the materials in the wrong place!

Yes I did go through ~/Library/Applications Support etc…

[another migrate materials option for WINDOWS users]

After reading your post i also made an effort to copy old materials into the new sketchup program as following:

PS i did not find any ‘old’ materials in my “users” folders, i found them in “ProgramData” folders?

  1. search and open the ‘old’ material folder (SUP22):
    (in my case @ c:\ProgramData\SketchUp\SketchUp 2022\SketchUp\Materials)

  2. search and open de ‘new’ material folder (SUP25):
    (in my case @ c:\ProgramData\SketchUp\SketchUp 2025\SketchUp\Materials)

  3. copy the old materials to their new corresponding material folder (for example wood)

  4. (re)start SUP25 and see the magic happen

After migrating:

Hope this helps you migrating materials from an older version

An other kind of method:

you’re on a PC. the previous method was on a mac.

Thanks, was just curious if it would work, but didnt think of the mac version, my apple-ogies.

And so i changed my post to "[another migrate materials option for WINDOWS users] " :innocent:

Thanx for the link. Found the " I recommend to rename the newly copied Material folder to e…g. #Legacy_Materials" very helpfull and will do so accordingly :+1:
