Hatch Pattern disappears after applying solid tool operation

Hi

I love the hatch pattern feature in 2027. Thanks SU team!

However, if you apply a material with hatch pattern to a group or component and then use this group in a solid tool operation, the hatch pattern is not shown anymore.

You have to reapply the material to the group, so that the section cut shows the hatch pattern again.

Another interesting oddity is that section patterns don’t seem to work when objects have their own section planes inside.

kinda makes sense now I think of it, you’re setting a hatch pattern to a volume while in a specific environment. when you enter the volume, you change environment.
I assume that if you had sub groups components they’d still behave normally.

in a way, kinda like painting a volume from the outside, then selecting a specific face, it’ll still show as neutral material.

… and because the styles, not the section plans, carry the main hatch parameter, they all revert to default. kinda makes sense. I see nested groups in a near future to go around that

I personally think the hatch process should respect any Active cutting plane in the View.

Yes. In this model I had to create a nested object for the panel so that the top level contained the section plane in order to be able to apply a hatch pattern.

For me it works nicely also with nested groups/components, as long as the section plane is placed outside of the group/component to cut.
Below is an innrer group object and a section plan grouped together and outside of that group is another section plane cutting.

However there seems another issue: when I double click to open the group, Sketchup crashes.

See attached model.
