Great Job on Ambient Occlusion! Minor Issue!

I was ready to hate the new Ambient Occlusion feature but as I’ve played around with it, I’m actually very impressed with its non-photoreal aesthetic. Congrats to SketchUp for providing this new feature

I’ve noticed that sometimes there are strange splodges on edges when the scene is at an angle. These disappear when you are viewing the scene front on.

Is this a known issue or is there something I should be doing to make this go away?!

Thanks,
Anita

What do you mean? The screenshot looks great. Nothing weird going on that I can see.

Hi there! I’ve circled the areas where there are issues.

Looks like some aliasing effects on your very narrow edges, which do get emphasised by ambient occlusion. Have you tried setting or increasing anti-aliasing (in Settings, Graphics)?

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for getting back to me. Yep, I’ve played around with all of the graphics settings and no change I’m afraid! Hopefully there will be a few refinements in future updates!

I’m trying to recreate the artifacts you show and not having success, anti-aliasing looks good on my output even with AO on. Perhaps it’s a difference in our models. Assuming you are outputting .jpg, what are your export options set to?

Be curious if you change the camera angle a bit and see if it persists or it changes / moves.

And also double the output resolution of the original and see if that helps.

My guess is it’s the perfect alignment of the pixel density, angle of those lines and aliasing.
