new here, have a question, I am going to create big and complex models /projects so what graphics card do you recommend for using Sketchup 2k19? also for rendering, currently I have GTX 960 4GB and now I am looking for a card from AMD but Nvidia could also be, I have little bit modernize my computer so now comes time to change GPU so I thought about some kind of GTX1660Ti or equivalent of AMD, the price is approximately 320$ - 330$
Sketchup plays nicer with the Nvidia family. The GTX 1660Ti or higher in the list will work nicely. The render engine used is what will really take advantage of a more powerful GPU.
Probably changing your graphics card won’t produce a big performance boost for SketchUp. With big models the biggest bottleneck is in the CPU - SketchUp is a single threaded application and all your 3D geometry passes through the CPU. Your current GPU is quite enough for SketchUp.
There have been many discussions in these forums where people have upgraded from a “basic” GPU to an “ultracool whizbang” one, with no apparent performance benefit.
If you plan to use a GPU renderer the number of processing cores in your graphics card makes a difference. Note that most GPU rendering applications only support Nvidia-based graphics cards.
The best performance strategy for SketchUp is to model using as few faces and edges as possible.
If You’re using SKP on its own the 1660ti will be absolutely fine. If You’re looking into renderers such as Enscape a RTX series card might improve Your performance significantly.
much appreciate for all your help, well to be honest, some time ago I was creating new model in previous version 2k18 but I had other parts like Intel Core i5 4570 3.2GHz 8Gb RAM 1600MHz with the same graphics and it was swimming pool as an sports facility, probably the biggest project I’ve ever created and after half of work it begun to work like slide show in PowerPoint while moving and rotating and I don’t know why, so that’s why I also want to change my graphics card to avoid such situations like this but as it should work flowingly (?)( I don’t know what word would be suitable as I am not ethnic American or English) but also sometimes for gaming too but not as often as for modeling. so to summarize the best choice would be 1660Ti. so I’d like to ask for render extension for sketchup what do you recommend? thanks in advance
Learn to model properly using low polys, fast rendering styles, with shadows and textures switched off in a scene page purposefully created and setup only for modeling.
Learn to create separate scene page(s) with the presentation style(s) switched on and only use them for export, as LayOut veiwports or printing. Meaning you do not model in a presentation quality scene page.
