Generate Faces Command

Hello Everyone,

I’ve been using this for a while now. Where I work we deal with a lot of Dimensional Text and so when we layout text in Illustrator and import into SketchUp the “Generate Faces” command. This is found when selecting empty text lines and right-clicking as the screenshot shows.

I’ve used this for a long time. I’ve been pointing people to this command for a while now but they’ve yet to actually use it. My desk mate though has tried using it and it doesn’t appear in the context menu when right clicking. Is this some sort of plugin feature that was installed to run in the background? If so, does anyone know of a way to find out which plugin it belongs to?

Off the top of my head I don’t know of any of the plugins I use that would do this other than maybe Curviloft or SoapSkin…

Thanks,

T.

I have that menu entry as well if I select more than one loop of edges. The fact that it loads after Fredoscale makes me think it’s an extension. Trying to identify the extension using shortcuts shows it as Edit/Item/Generate Faces. I’ll keep poking but I bet one of the Ruby Gurus will be along with a snippet or something you could use to find that menu text.

Smustard have one?

i believe…

I think you’re right but I don’t have it installed on this computer.

Hmmmmm… I have fredoacale, soap, curviloft and @eneroth3 face creator running and I do not get that option in the context menu.

So maybe that eliminates those extensions from the candidates.

My face creator is deliberately designed to not clutter the context menu (I hate it myself when the context menu is really long and I have to actively look for items and read their names instead of just knowing the one I’m looking for is e.g. the third from the bottom). To use my extension go to Extensions > Eneroth Face Creator.

Yup, works great, thanks. :+1: Just trying to figure out where the OP is getting his menu option from.

Might be Sandbox Tools.

Well I had sandbox disabled, so I switched it on but no changes in right click menu.

Not Sandbox,

grep your plugins folder and you may find it…

Had a bit of a dig and there is chatter in Sketchucation of “generate face” being part of “Tools on Surface”

That’s it, indeed! Tools on Surface does include that command. Good sleuthing.

I have the world at my fingertips Dave

Thanks All to the responses and help. I’ll make sure to pass this along to anyone here that wants it. I know some people have been drawing lines on each letter to make them populate… in which case this will be a huge time saver.

Thanks Again! This Forum is super helpful.
