Hi!
I just have to share about this just released new Plugin aimed at garden designers and landscape architects, created by Shoot Gardening, a plant database and garden design website.
I joined the ‘early adopters’ group and along with a group of other Garden designers and landscape architects, have been able to influence how it is developed and try it out.
I am delighted, it is an amazing tool that has really streamlined and speeded up my workflow creating planting plans. Currently it supplies named components from your plant lists created on Shoot, in basic plan and elevation formats. It is going through further development to give realistic 2d face me images so that you and your clients can really ‘see’ the planting.
It has dialogue windows within Sketchup that give you info about each plant and a count of how many you have in the model.
It also lets you create & export plant lists by total numbers of each plant or by quantity per bed, so that ordering and organising planting becomes really easy. And it integrates normally with Layout so producing planting plans is easy.
I’ve done a short demo screen recording (on dropbox)

I’m not sure that link is working, but the demo is on Shoot’s instagram page here https://www.instagram.com/p/DIA9-jFKUQv/
I have been dreaming about having something like this for 25 years!! I just wanted to share the news with you! (I am not affiliated with Shoot in any way apart from being a customer) In case you want to have a look -

Hi Paul, I only put that link because the video I made on my dropbox didn’t seem to work. I’ll see if I can remedy that.

I was already using Sketchup for garden designs, and getting increasingly frustrated at the lack of a good way of searching for and placing plants within gardens and having to search multiple libraries for plant images - often with very high polygon counts that make Sketchup grind to a halt. We were already using Shoot for planting plans, but importing our Sketchup plans into Shoot was becoming a bit cumbersome, especially for larger landscaping projects. The announcement from Shoot that they were developing an extension for Sketchup was the best news. It now means that I can continue to create gardens and detailed scenes in Sketchup, and select the plants from Shoot’s library of plants with info about seasonal colour, soil preferences, light preferences etc. It’s super easy to use, meaning I can do the technical drawing and setting up of planting scenes in Sketchup, and someone else (more creative than me) can do the planting plans with minimal training - literally select and click. The plant shapes represent mature sizes and size and colour can be adjusted, and very low poly counts keep the Sketchup models efficient and usable. Honestly a must-have for landscape gardening - and a really good fit with Sketchup and Layout. Huge time-saver.

Hi Dan. I work freelance as a CAD designer for landscape gardeners in the UK. We is the landscape garden designer I have been working with for the last few months when this extension was launched.
Ah… okay the AI did find a Sparrow Garden Design in Cotswolds. Stuff looks interesting.
I was going to say you needed to fix your profile, but you’ve already done that.
(I.e., extensions don’t work on the web edition.)
Thank you too so much Sally for starting this forum thread and for being involved in our new project. It has meant the world to us. Together we are building something wonderful and new. If anyone wants to catch-up, I hosted a live chat with Sally last year on Instagram too. (check out our reels)
Thanks Toby for the kind post. It has been great working with you past few months on our project. Delighted you like what we have built and are building into the future. It is invaluable to get customer feedback as we decide what is next.
