Follow Me Tool Not working as hoped

Hi, I am new to Sketchup and am trying to get a circle to follow a vector spline to form part of the chair. But it doesnt seem to want to work. Am I doing something wrong?

And what is the best way to do this to give me the flexibility to quickly change the model if I need to adapt the exact angle of the spline afterwards ?

Thanks in advance

Can you describe more fully just what is going wrong? From just your screen shot we must guess. My guess would be issues at the two sharp corners, where the circle may not follow cleanly. A second guess would be that the circle has enough segments that SketchUp is failing to create tiny faces.

Try placing the circle at either end of the lines, and rotate the circle so that it is perpendicular to the end of the line.

thanks guys, I managed to get it working but I had to take everything out of a group to get it to work. Should this normally be the case?

Do you mean you exploded the group?

Follow Me won’t work on geometry that is inside a group unless you open the group for editing. That is normal. You shouldn’t need to explode a group to work on the geometry. Simply open the group for editing.

Ah I see, so the shape I want to follow the path always needs to be in the same group as the path?

That’s the easiest way. If the profile is in a group you can select the path, get Follow Me, right click on the profile group, choose Edit Group, and then click on the profile face.

Woks fine. I rounded off the edges of the 3 sided path, set the circular face at the start of the path, inclined both path and circular face a few degrees and ‘follow me’ did its’ job!

Just a suggestion to simplify your work:

1 - Draw the path on an horizontal plane.

2 - Draw the circle on a vertical plane to have it perpendicular to the start of the path.

3 - Do the Follow me.

4 - Rotate the completed U shaped tube by the required few degrees.

Thanks all for the help, much appreciated
