Follow me behaves oddly (bug?)

hey there fellow forumists.

I just stumbled on a weird one.

to demonstrate, see this first. as you see, I have a group containing a welded path and a face to extrude.
next to it will be the exact same but not grouped.

this is the ungrouped follow me. it’s what I expected.

this is the grouped follow me. same geometry but within a group.

if the path is in a group and the face is outside, it’s also broken. but it’s broken about 2m away.

if the path is outside of the group but the face is inside of the group, it’s behaving as expected.

what’s with follow-me and path inside groups ?

That’s kind of cool. Did you scale the group before opening it and running Follow Me?

nope. it’s raw. you can see the original method here

it’s really weird. if the path is in a group, it’s broken. if the path is outside in the wild, it’s fine.

I realise most (all?) my follow-me have ungrouped paths, sometimes the face is (because I made it separately), but not the path. I couldn’t say since when it’s been like that…

file’s here if people want to poke at it.
(edit : off course if I give the right file it’s better)

sketchup 2017 gives the expected result. something happened in between.

same in sketchup web. it’s fine.

I’ll try your file in a little bit. This is what I got with the path and profile inside a group.

I just checked on my PC. it’s behaving as expected too (I didn’t record it but trust me. I’m trustworthy.)

So it’s something only on the mac version ? anyone on mac cares to try my file ?
(@colin , might have a new bug here)

I’m on Sonoma 14.7.4 , SU 25, mac mini m1

I’m mac, I’ll try this…

Edit: both work fine for me on Sonoma 14.7.3, but I’m still using SU 24. I usually wait for a few months before moving my production workflow into the next version. I’ll test 25 now…

Huh, I cannot reproduce in 24 or 25? Weird.

Nor can i

I saved and quit. even deleted my file.
just now, I re-downloaded the file I shared above, and now it behaves as expected.
what’s weird is that upon saving, I didn’t get a message telling me stuff had been fixed (that would have explained…) so I really don’t know.
what’s also super weird is that I didn’t add or remove anything between the first video and the upload…

I’ll try later today to re-do the whole thing see if it starts again or not.

Worked as expected on Sonoma/SU25

Are you dealing with the French Connention?

I know it can be frustrating when you are onto something but then (after letting it out) you can’t reproduce it and you are almost certain that you didn’t change a thing.
Is it the program, the version, an update, something with the hardware?

nah, just 40 min of doing something else (watching a video, typing an email… heavy stuff). quitting and relaunching sketchup too I guess.
