Floating extension toolbars keep reappearing in every new file - mac

I’m having a super annoying issue where every time I open a new SketchUp file, a bunch of extension toolbars appear as floating windows. I have to close them manually every single time! To clarify, I’m a mac user and windows solutions don’t work for this case.

I already tried closing them all and saving the file, but they just come back in the next new file.

Has anyone else dealt with this? Does anyone know how to set a default layout or make these toolbars stop appearing for good?

Thanks for any tips! (sorry English is not my first language)

Yep. It’s likely on the extension developer’s side : there is a parameter they have to apply that forces the toolbar to remember the visibility.

some don’t use it.

what toolbars have you spotted ? (I have a couple myself, I usually just turn them off by default because of that)

Toolbars settings are not kept within SKP model files.

@DanRathbun is absolutely correct. Toolbar state is saved in SketchUp system data, not in individual SketchUp files. The state is saved when SketchUp is closed/quit, not when you close or save a file. And, as @ateliernab pointed out, extension developers choose in their code whether to respect or ignore the saved toolbar state.

1001bit and sketchUV

Unless you use an extension/plugin often [when getting a toolbar would not be too intrusive anyway] it is pointless to waste loading time etc having it active. So why not switch it off in the extension manager ? Or to stop even an entry appearing in there you could install and use the SketchUcation Tools - this has a Plugins manager which stops selected plugins [extensions etc] even getting loading at startup [so there’s then never a toolbar], saving time and memory etc, and it’s easy to either renew the loading of selected plugins, or temporarily reload selected ones for that session only [when toolbars will again be created]… There’s a free membership available and it’s need to license many extensions hosted there too…

Both of these extensions have errors that fail to record the toolbar state, and so even when turned off they will default to open on the next SketchUp startup. However, they should not open with each new file, only when SketchUp is restarted. I also turn most offenders off but a few I leave on and place them in the center of the workspace so they are easy to close every time. But it’s not that often as I leave SketchUp running most of the time. As you are on a Mac you can open and close as many files as you want within a SketchUp, why quit the program so much, just close the file.

on a mac, if I want a specific tool in my topbar, the plugin has to be turned on, and since I don’t want to see the tools in duplicate, I’ll turn off the toolbar.

so yeah, it’s a mac thing, you install a plugin, add some buttons to the topbar, but the main toolbar will still appear on every launch because the dev chose not to respect the saved toolbar state.

1001 bit tools hasn’t been updated in years, it’s known that it doesn’t work with newer versions of sketchup, sketchUV is a plugin developed by sketchup developers team, I use it quite frequently and haven’t had any issues with it. Probably @colin knows who is in charge of those extensions developed by team members.
