FILLED - Structural engineer seeking ongoing SketchUp + LayOut drafting partner (paid trial, remote OK)

Hell,
I’m a structural engineer in British Columbia and I run much of my structural production through SketchUp and LayOut. I’m looking for a drafter/modeler to work with on an ongoing basis, starting with a defined paid trial project.

The immediate project: a 4-storey wood-frame shear-wall building over a concrete podium in California (high-seismic). The trial scope is a clean, well-organized structural framing model of the podium and first framed level, built over a locked architectural underlay.

What I’m looking for:

  • I need a model I can open, understand, and keep editing myself as the design develops.
  • You’re fluent in LayOut for construction documentation, or genuinely working toward it.
  • You care about model organization: tags by level and element type, components for repeated members, a tidy Outliner.
  • You read drawings critically. The structural set is schematic-level, so I want placeholders plus a question list where information is missing.
  • Experience with Medeek or similar framing extensions is a genuine plus, though not required.

Structural drafting background is welcome but not mandatory.

Remote is fine (I’m Pacific time; flexible on overlap). If the trial goes well, this becomes steady ongoing work, and I’m honestly hoping to find someone for longterm collaboration.

Ideal Candidate: Someone with strong SU and Layout skills that can couch me, but also willing to collaborate on process and a genuine interest in design.

If interested: please reply here or DM me with a sample of your work.

Thanks, Steve

I am not a candidate for the job but I want to praise your very clear and thorough post, seldom seen in this category!

Thanks Anssi. AI helped..
And sorry for the Hello typo.

I am interested!
