File will not open

Hello, I am new to SketchUp. I recently have been working on a file and last night while working, the file crashed and now WILL NOT open. It now has this symbol (~) next to the file name. Is there anything I can do to get this file to open or is it lost forever?

The ~ file is a backup of the previous save that you did. The current model should be in the same folder, but without the ~ symbol. If you ever have the current model not work for you, and the backup with ~ in the name is not too far back, that you can live with the recent changes you did, then open the ~ and Save As to a new non - ~ file name. Mainly to save confusion when you have files that start with ~ ~ ~. Or you could rename the backup file.

Meanwhile, if you can’t open the ~ backup, and you can’t find the non - ~ current version, you can look in here to get the most recent auto save file:

~/Library/Application Support/SketchUp 2020/working/SKETCHUP/RecoveredFiles

Look there to see if there are any files with the right name.

To get to that path, in Finder choose Go to Folder… from the Go menu, and paste in that path.

Thanks for that info. I had no idea.
