I spend hours and hours drawing in SketchUp, and then producing my construction documents in SketchUp Layout. However, since the latest update, the way to pan a model view in Layout has changed from shift + Middle Mouse Button to Left Click.
This is extremely frustrating. I constantly trigger the wrong action, and I have to undo the view position every time. After spending so many hours in SketchUp using shift + Middle Mouse Button to pan the view, switching to Layout where it suddenly becomes Left Click makes no sense to me.
Why was this changed?
This inconsistency between SketchUp and Layout slows down my workflow and causes repetitive mistakes. It would be much more intuitive and efficient if both applications used the same controls for navigation.
The change was done because a lot of people were wanting to move the viewport left or right, and accidentally got into the 3D view and orbited the scene instead. Now if you accidentally double-click, you would only pan the scene slightly. The camera direction would remain the same.
Yeah, not much more to say, we did change this behavior back in 22 or 23 and as Colin has indicated, this was to help prevent users from performing an orbit if a viewport was accessed.
Now you can just adding both for pan : left click / shift + middle mouse to prenvent people of orbit when lookîng for a pan … or left click for previous orientation …
looks like on their machine, shift + wheelclick doesn’t pan. that’s odd, it works on mine. anyone on a PC can try?
Thanks, bmike! I finally tested now.
It works… sort of… but a bit strange. If you activate Orbit first, then Pan works automatically, without pressing any key.
