Exporting DWG plans

The reason why contractors I work with need the dwg is so they can double check any measurements, lets say I have forgotten to indicate a measurement or something in my pdf drawings (created in layout), they will have the ability to quickly double check in autoCAD. In Trimble Connect can they use the tape measure to check stuff? or can they only view it? I have never used Trimble connect before

Of course you can. You have also more information if you provide it from SketchUp.

Iā€™m attaching two screenshots showing the information it offers.
The first one is a meassure taken from a SketchUp Model and the second one with information from an Ifc model exported by SketchUp

oh wow! Iā€™ll definitely be checking this out, it looks like there is a lot of potential with this! thank you so much for the help and advice.

Just to add to what @rtches has indicated, you donā€™t have to use Trimble Connect (we use a French exchange platform instead) the main thing is to create & share ifc files between yourself & your design partners as it leads to many fewer mistakes as we are all looking at combined 3d models containing all sorts of useful dataā€¦
Most architects seem to think that BIM is only for big projects, but when I see how much that type of workflow helps us anticipate & coordinate, right through the design process & on to site, I donā€™t ever want to go back to the bad old days of 2d dwg !
Good luck on your BIM journeyā€¦

Hi there. For exporting o eg/dxf l suggest setting your scenes ( plans, sections ,elevations etc) in SU and then insert the file into LO. Render each viewport in hybrid or vector . Exports DWG/DXF . Suggest you go to green SKETCHUP USER GUIDE available on the SU website where the instructions are by clear on the steps to do what I have described . As you are on a Mac, thee are a few dwg file viewers available (some free).

Hi thanks for the tips, ill be trying this out !!

Am I correct that if I SHARE my model from SU then many of the view functions are disabled? But if I INVITE someone to join the ā€œteamā€ and they sign up to TC then they can view e.g. hide layers etc & edit the model?

Yes. You are right. If you invite them to the Project you can also create roles for each member in order to access to different folders.
