Exporting dwg files from layout to be manipulated in sketup

Hi team, I’m new to layout. I am trying to export a dwg file I’ve created (using scenes imported from SketchUp). I can export the dwg file but when I then import it as a dwg file into sketch up it appears unresponsive to tape measure or any other tool. I have tried ‘export for SketchUp’ and it has no effect.

Can you not measure said object just in sketchup without taking it into layout first?

Yes absolutely but I need to break down the 3d object into 6 side sections as it has to be sent in that format to our manufacturer. Previously I have done it within SketchUp but it is very time consuming. I’m trying to simplify it using scenes and layout but I was hoping to check it was accurately sized by importing it back into SketchUp to measure it. I do not own auto CAD or another CAD software.

Did you render the viewports in LayOut as Vector or Hybrid or did you just leave them rendered as Raster? If just raster rendering, then there won’t be any endpoints for the Tape Measure tool to snap to in SketchUp.

I’ve left them as raster

That’s the problem. Render them as Vector or Hybrid so you have vector linework.

I will give it a go now

Dave you are my saviour :raising_hands:.

Like a true Luddite I was just getting angry at the computer. Can’t thank you enough

You’re quite welcome.

Maybe you should mark my reply as the solution in case others come by with the same issue.

Or turn on Output Override in Document Setup.
Note that the “Export for SketchUp” exports your LayOut page using the page scale so if your viewports are not 1:1 you will have to scale the DWG back up to get them to full scale.
You can download and install the free DWG TrueView application from Autodesk to view and measure your exported DWG files. Autodesk also has a free online viewer for DWG files.
