Hey there! im doing exploded structural views like this below, im separating the components mannually, to the left..right, up and down, is there a easier way or any componen?? i tried with the exploded animation of fredo6 animator but it explodes the stuff from a central point and its not useful in this case. Any ideas?
Not that I have found⌠I always do it âby handâ.
There is an old plugin at SketchUcation, not sure if it still works on your SU2023âŚâŚand if it suits you.
Iv done similar things in the past and its painful process.
Like Mike, I do it by hand. I tried the old plugin @dezmo linked to but found it didnât work as well as manually doing it. I donât find it all that difficult or painful and I get exactly what I need.
Likewise. Much like placing dimensions so they are readily usable, exploding assemblies requires some thought to avoid clutter. Maybe this is something AI will eventually be able to handle?
Have you tried OpenCutList?
I donât use OCL so I havenât tracked the features Boris keeps adding. I know it will do cutting plan layouts, but will it do exploded assembly drawings like @Syksy showed?
Indeed, it works but the results is always nicer by doing it mannually. The thing should be the ability to explode and move the pieces on x,y z axis, not from a central point. I am also using dc ify to manipulate also the DCS
If not from a central point, from what other point do you want to move them?
as i said and as you are doing in the video, x, y and Z, if you try the plug in mentioned before, the pieces move like âliterally exploidingâ which is not the same ![]()
Anyway, nice tool that with blender
Yes, itâs very fast, once youâve created that geometry node, you can use it in just two clicks. And you have both modes, either in all directions at once, or you can move the pieces in a specific direction (X, Y, Z).
Once youâre happy with how it looks, just export it as an OBJ file and import it back into SketchUp.
Seems awesome ! Now i just have to get blender haha thanks ! im going to try it out
Yes, OpenCutList extension can generate exploded view. But from center too.
Else ABF extension allows x,y,z exploded view.
At our studio we are using https://www.vectary.com
Nice! i didnt know the software, how is your workflow? just out of curiosity
If itâs a SketchUp model well in any other 3d modeling software, we make sure all parts in model is grouped or components. Then export the model as an OBJ file (works best I think). Then open Vectary and set your scene, lights, materials and finally go to animation to setup your exploded view animation. Within minutes your model is ready to export to video, websites etc. I sound like a salesman
but Vectary is actually easy to work with.
Wow what a great demo Boris. That was a real eye opener.
