OMG it was that simple! Thank you all very much. you will probably see me a lot here as this is my first experience with the Sketchup.
Many thanks
What was that simple?
opening new file.
That strongly reinforces the idea that the camera was zoomed way out on the previous model.
I have a mouse were you can set the scroll wheel to little increments (steps) and a smoothless option.
With the steps, youâll have better control since it are small steps and zooming stops with each step. The smoothless setting lets me zoom out to extragalactic camera viewpoints in less then a second, resulting in the switching of the Blue Axeâs direction ( it just flips ) and broken green and red Axes.
There is probably more than one way to skin the cat, but I think this is best.
- From the main SketchUp toolbar, open the âWINDOWâ drop-down box and select âMODEL INFOâ.
- Once in âMODEL INFOâ, you can set the âUNITSâ and âPRECISIONâ that you desire. For your millimeters, you should choose âDECIMALâ, and to the right of that, choose âMILLIMETERSâ.
- Look at your model toolbar for a white box labeled âLENGTHâ. If you do not see such a box, drop-down the âVIEWâ selection on the main SketchUp toolbar and select âCUSTOMIZE TOOLBARâ.
- From the selection of tools, drag and drop the âLENGTHâ tool into the model tool bar at the top (I like to position mine on the far right).
- Donât try to âdragâ a line to the length you want; begin to draw your line so that an origin for it is set.
- Then let go of the mouse (or other device) and type the actual measurement numbers you want for the line. It will appear in the length box that you just installed. Remember the format you chose from âMODEL INFO, UNITSâ, and keep that format as you type.
- You will be able to see the length in the âLENGTHâ box as you type. When you have typed the length you want, hit âENTERâ. Your line will immediately extend to that length.
- As a final suggestion, I recommend becoming familiar with every choice in the main menu drop-down boxes. Add this to a disciplined working of every tutorial you can find starting with âbeginnerâ tutorials. You, I, and everyone else wants to jump in and create our models because itâs fun and exciting. But learning SketchUp will save you countless hours and grief, if you will be disciplined in the absorption of the tutorials. Reply and let us know how this line creation method worked out for you.
