Error Layout File

After so much work, i cant access my layout work, how can I open it? The backup doesn’t exist! I dont know why. Help

Where were you saving the LO file while working on it?

Can you share the file?

You need to make it accessible.

I changed, send you the link for the wetransfer.

I tried a few things but wasn’t successful. It might be that @colin would have better luck if he has time to look at it.

It’s odd that there’s no backup of the file. By default Create a backup and Autosave are enabled. Have you disabled them?

Ohh thank you so much!
No, I never disabled. The version of the backup file is from one day before, not the actual work that I did.
It’s super strange because I made an PDF FILE, and clicked to save. So it has 2 files with the same name but different hours of save. Both have the same error!

The usual things I would try didn’t work. I don’t really see anything wrong with the file. It may be worth asking @Barry to show the file to the developers.

Thank you Colin, I can share both files, They have the same content but different save times

The file is large: I can see references to the content - 2 skp models, 21 pages… but it ends as if it timed out or was interrupted. Were you writing to a slow hard drive or a networked drive? That’s what it behaves like, and then it timed out or something.

You’re on Windows - you could go to /Users/YOUR_USER/AppData/Local/SketchUp/SketchUp 2025/LayOut/working and see if there are LAYOUT files there with your content. If so, from inside one of those directories, zip that directory and it’s subdirectories and try renaming from .zip to .layout and see if you can open it.

If you can zip but can’t get it open, share that zip and I’ll try it.

For what it’s worth, the embedded SKPs open ok.

Hello! I tried to find this local folder, but I couldn’t find it. For information purposes, is there any interference between the hard drive on which the skt/layout is installed and the storage hard drive?
device info

The YOUR_USER/AppData folder is normally hidden. You can make hidden folders visible in File Explorer.

I think the computer shut down before it finished. I left it saving overnight, but the saving time must have been longer than when the computer was on, which is strange because a notebook connected to the power supply only switches off after an hour

I will try that

I found it and it’s empty

That’s unfortunate.

So can you open the backup you mentioned? Even though it’s older at least you wouldn’t be starting from the beginning.

Yea, That’s right, it’s the only way. Thank you!!

To make sure you were looking in the right folder, there is a way to give the path that makes sure there are no errors in the path. If you open File Explorer, and copy and paste this into the path field:

%LocalAppData%\SketchUp\SketchUp 2025\LayOut\working

that will get you to the right place, regardless of your user name.

Hey Barry, I did and search as @colin said and found a folder with the day of the last save I remember it was working. I did’t catch witch folder I should zip ? I did with the folder “pages” but inside that has more files.
