Pretty exciting moment late yesterday afternoon, as the very last strut got bolted into place. It’s truly fascinating to see a SketchUp model on my computer turn into reality. I remember very well, this stage of the modelling design… with only struts and hubs. Now for the triangle framing and plywood sheathing.
Beautifull!!
That’s looking good! I used to use a snow shovel when I did carpentry too ;^).
Yeah, ain’t that a thrill? Very cool structure!
Here’s a photo update of my project. It’s taken awhile to get to this stage because I’ve been building the whole thing myself. The weather membrane has been installed and we’re ready for winter… almost. Strangely, there hasn’t been any major issues to overcome. It’s all come together pretty much exactly as my SketchUp model. Looking forward to working on the interior this winter.
Wow! Cool!
When is move-in day?
It’ll likely be another year Dave, before we’re actually living in there. But the work will be easier now… interior walls, plumbing and electrical.
Very good. Do you have heat so you can work through the winter?
My plan is to temporarily insulate and heat the service room area, which we can use as a laundry room and a warm place to work from. I’ll take advantage of the many warmer winter days to do what I can with wiring and plumbing, etc.
Very nice to see your project progressing!!
What kind of weather membrane is it?
Yes… it’s truly wonderful to be at this stage now. The weather membrane is an liquid elastomeric coating that gets sprayed on, after all the seams are taped. The plan is to get the cladding done in early spring, once we verify there are no leaks. Meanwhile there’s a lot of work to do on the inside.
Is the cladding going to be glued?
What kind of weather membrane did you use? How did you wrap/ attach it? I’d appreciate it if you could elaborate further on the construction procedure. You have chosen an extraordinary hobby.
PS. Sorry for the questions. I found the construction drawings you shared. Congratulations again on your hobby!
Hi… the weather membrane is an elastomeric spray on product. I had a local contractor install it for me as I didn’t have the application equipment. Thanks for your interest and comments.
I’ve been working on the interior these past couple of months. It’s really starting to come together.
