End of support for sketchup viewer 31/12/2025

Does the App stop working or is it just support ending?

REF:

It is my understanding the viewer stopped development a few years ago. I used to use it to let clients view the model but it had its draw backs. The Desktop version was slightly different from the Iphone version and different from the Android version. The newer online version of Sketchup is what I share with now. It can be sent as a link that protects the SKP file from being pirated. The draw back is the limited abilities to the user to select tag visibility and things like that. So I still share the SKP and instruct the client to access it with the online version. I cannot speak to its ability to use VR and the other such tools. Also the new share feature might be the direction things are headed. I havent used that yet but it looks like a great communication tool when doing projects with remote customers.

The app will stop working, and support ended last September.

The version I use is the one for APP Quest Glasses, and it has continued to be developedโ€”at least until September. In fact, its functionality had improved significantly.

Through Trimble Connect, you could access any project, and it was very well integrated with the platform I use to share models and documentation. Thatโ€™s why I donโ€™t understand how a development that was making such good progress has been discontinued so suddenly.

The only scenario that would make sense to me is if it were integrated into Trimble Connect itself and separated from SketchUp, or alternatively integrated into the Trimble AR app, which is what I currently use to show models in AR on tablets and mobile devices. I wouldnโ€™t mind paying for that app at all.

Over the last few days, when accessing SketchUp Viewer from the APP for Quest Glasses, a survey appears asking whether you would be willing to pay for itโ€”and in my case, the answer is definitely yes.

For sharing models with clients, I would recommend using Trimble Connect rather than SketchUp directly. Clients usually find a dedicated viewer much more convenient. And if you export the model to IFC with properties assigned to the elements, they can also view and inspect those properties.

I may have misspoken. The viewer i was thinking of was for mobile devices and had a desktop version. Looking at the โ€œnewโ€ admin console that product isnt even available. There is viewer for Meta Quest. There used to be a couple of VR products no longer listed. I know nothing about it.

I would hope a team member would jump in to answer your questions.
