One of the confusing aspects is the the two descriptions… one is accessed only through the Component Browser window “Edit” option and relates to the component file data (labeled Entity Description) in the report.
The other Description is from the Component Attributes labeled “Description” in the Report
maybe simplify it a bit as “flow” in this case seems to be “what can i report on?” versus “how are the attributes defined in the DC and in my report?”
[ list of built in attributes ] + [ user defined attributes ] ===> [ used in DC editor ]
[ list of built in attributes ] + [ user defined attributes ] ===> [ assigned in a given DC ]
[ list of built-in attributes ] + [ user defined attributes ] ===> [ in component report settings ]
[ list of built-in attributes ] + [ user defined attributes ] ===> [ in component report output fields ]
note that not all components are dynamic components - so non-DC will only have built-in attributes whereas a DC can user defined ones which may be reportable or not. deeply nest components may also not be reportable (e.g. layer 5+), and using groups within components will not have visibility.
Thanks Glen, noted… actually there is a sequence of 10 screen captures behind this diagram recording where data appears after entering during the process of creating a DC.
A narrated video would be good but that is beyond my skillset given the confused state of creating parametric objects in Sketchup using DC’s or LIVE or RUBY it is hard to justify the effort!
