Drawing a floor plan

Hi there,
I am trying to draw 2D rectangular for the floor plan and it doesn’t turn grey. Why is that?

Why do you want it to turn gray? What makes you think it should turn gray? Orbit the camera a bit and the face should show some shading?

Because I have created 3D model previously and once I drew a rectangilular it turned grey. Also, it shows in a video tutorial. However, yes you are right it is grey if I move the cursor.

The video you show is from an old version and shows the blue back face up. That was changed a few versions ago so that face drawn on the ground plane have their front face up. There’s nothing wrong with SketchUp. With the front face up you won’t wind up with reversed faces on your walls when you extrude them to 3D.
