Disappearing lines

I wonder if anyone else is seeing this peculiar behaviour in SU24?

It usually happens with construction lines but it can happen when drawing lines. Part of the line disappears behind another entity just as if they were on different planes. Except they aren’t. Could it be some kind of Z fighting going on?

Here’s an example:

One reason I can tell that lines are coplanar is that where the missing line should cross another, you do get an intersection cross when you hover over it.

There is something wrong with the link, it is not live.

Does this work?

Can you post the skp file?

We have seen a few reports of this, specifically with SU24, guidelines or construction lines, and the experimental graphics engine. A quirk of the graphics engine that fails to place coplanar guides “on top”. Switching to classic engine solves it with the accompanying losses in new functions and rendering options.

When I tried switching to the classic engine it told me it would only take effect in a new window. I am not sure what that means. Is it the old switch off and back on again?

It means you need to quit and restart SketchUp so the change to the graphics engine can be implemented.

I suspect that’s the cause: the guides aren’t being given priority in the z buffer, so based on tiny differences in distance from the camera they are behind faces. If that’s right, it is an artifact of how the new graphics engine handles the z buffer.

Pretty much as I thought. It only does it when dynamically. Once you place the line, it appears as you would expect. It also happens sometimes when drawing a line.

It’s a bit clunky but I guess that’s because the new graphics engine is a work in progress.
