designing some patio furniture where I have several 2x4s, 1x6s, 1x4s, and 4x4s. I drawn them up in actual dimensions and now that I am done Cut List does not really seem to be helping me determine how many of each size boards I need to buy. Every piece of the project is created as a Component too… btw I have only been using sketchup for a few days now sorry if this is something simple I am not doing. All of the tutorials I found on CutList uses projects that are created in sheet goods. Is there anything that can help me with this?
CutList can give you some guidance in knowing how many boards you’ll have to buy assuming there’s no waste for cutting around knots and other flaws. It won’t give it to you directly in the cutlist table although that will give you total lengths for the various parts. You can look at the Layout window however and if you’ve set it up correctly, it’ll show you how many boards you’ll need.
Can you share the SKP file? I can help you get it sorted. If you don’t want to share the file publicly, click on my name at the top of this post and then click Message to send me a private message.
Sure here it is… don’t judge lol this was quite literally the first thing I have done in sketchup.
Patio Furniture 1.skp (91.8 KB)
i just realized looking at LayOut that I didnt use layers… probably would have helped
No worries. I won’t judge too much.
Did you make a LayOut document from the model?
Do you want to look at it together?
I just did… 1 sec
i am looking at it in layout 2017 but not sure what I am looking at
No worries. The Layout I was referring to before is a window that can be generated with the CutList extension.
ahhh yeah not what I am looking at lol 1 sec I know what you are referring too…
looking at the layout window now
