Dimension slash

Dimension slashes no longer lean the same way at the ends of a single dimension.

What do you mean? Show an example. Are you still using SketchUp 2022? Are you talking about dimensions in SketchUp or in LayOut? If you’re talking about LayOut, the direction the slashes lean is up to you. Set them to lean in the direction you want.

Can you share the file? I’m not seeing that in SketchUp 2025.

I’m not sure my profile update “took”. I’m using SketchUp 25.0.633 with Ventura 13.7.6. In the file an example of the dimension slashes slanting in opposite directions is at the left in the drawing titled “LOWER FLOOR (NEW)”. Elsewhere in the drawing, which I created with an earlier version of SketchUp, the dimensions all slant the same way.

It looks like it took.

So when I opened your file and zoomed in to the LOWER FLOOR (NEW) drawing I see this.

All the slashes face the same direction. I winder if this is a Mac-only issue or a graphics engine choice, are a graphics card issue. Under SketchUp>Settings>Performance, which graphics engine do you have selected? Does switching to the other one have any impact on the dimensions. After switching you’ll need to quit and restart SketchUp.

Is there a reason you are using a 3D modeling application like a 2D CAD program?

A couple of things to make sure of. You should keep you model close to the origin instead of stringing it out across the countryside as you’ve done.

You should be using groups and components and you should make sure you are using tags correctly. All edges and faces should be created and remain untagged. Tags should only be given to groups and components. I fixed that in your model.

Thank you, many things I’ll work on but probably tomorrow. For now I’ll tell you I started doing 2d with this program more than 10 years ago because Layout seemed cumbersome. I assume Layout has become better but I got pretty good at forcing the 3d program to produce what I needed. I know it’s odd.
Thanks again, maybe more questions tomorrow.

I think this is a regression bug. It seems to only happen to vertical linear dimensions.
(And it might be a display bug in one of the graphics engines.)

I switched graphics engine from “new graphic engine” to “classic graphic engine” and that fixed the dimension slashes. Apparently I lost some rendering capabilities but I think they are not ones I need. Thank you!
I will keep better track of the origin and I will make tagged lines groups. I assume that is recommended even if it’s a single line. I use tags for the line quality option. Why is it better to make them groups?
And, I wanted to learn a drawing program 20 years ago and SketchUp was free for many years. That sucked me in.
